when i installed the sb live value i noticed that the volume is not as loud.. i have the new livewire and new drivers.. and the volume is turned up..

what gives? or is this card just not as loud?

newer sound cards don't have any amplifier at the jack output. It totally rely on the internal amplifier in your speakers, if any. Old cards, like the sb16, have their own amplifier.

the reason that the new cards remove the amplifier is that it might introduce more noise. if it relies on the amplifier in the speakers, the sound quality is much better.

oh.. just wondering.. i have powered speakers.. just seemed odd that i had to turn the volume on them up more than on the old card..

thanx.

yes yes, and to tell you a short story, I have the sblive. One day I bought the powerful Altec 44.1 speakers. Plug it in, tune up the volume and everything was good.

Then come this day where I have to repair my old machine, and there is this sb16 in it, which I have to test. Plug in the speakers, play an mp3, and darn! The sound was so loud that I nearly web deaf....

And that's when I learned about this amplifier thing, haha.. 😀
