SB Live kills my win98! update-new drivers worked, but should i risk the liveware3 install?

I've read quite a bit about the problems with the Asus A7V and the SB Live as well as the MX300 and the A7V, and all of those posts were at least able to have the blasted thing installed in their systems. In win98 when I installed the drivers for both the MX300 and the SB Live, the system froze, and I had to boot into safe mode and remove the registry values to break the endless cycle of reboot, windows auto driver install, freeze. That's not good at all because I like having sound. The driver installation for both cards froze when the old, emulation driver was being installed. Is there a way to install just the windows98 drivers and not the old emulation?


update: ok, so i'm now the happiest retard alive. right after i posted this thread i went to creative's site and downloaded the latest drivers, and those installed no problem. 😱 so, my question now, is should i install liveware3.0 or not. i've seen a whole lot of posts about how that f*cked things all up too...
 
It is really quite amazing how Creative Labs went from crappy hard to use sound cards that were slot picky -> to really good sound cards that work even if thrown in a toaster -> back to "well I want these slots with drivers that don't work"....sigh....such is the way of the world

That's a difficult one Tets. If your speakers are belting out what you want to hear, and you're happy with the way in which your sound card is working, I'd suggest sticking to the drivers you currently have. If you want to take a little risk, maybe you should update though.

BTW, I was reading your post in CPU forum - that's one damn nice Thunderbird you've got yourself 😉
 
thanks snowy. yeah, i installed the liveware and nothing bad happened. i bet i had a really funny look on my face when windows loaded up no problem. i was sitting there with clenched fists awaiting the apocalypse or something and then, just, nothing happened. it was weird. anyway, it's running like a champ now.
