Forgot to ask this too, who all has the Digital I/O daughter card for their sb live? do you like it? where did you get it? thnx,
j

If all you need is something that will let you send digital output (like to FPS2000 speakers), you can get one by asking creative support for it
I got one so that i can have my headphones plugged into the analog out

carries Hoontech in the USA.

I didn't need input and figgered optical would be a nice additional output option instead of just making an electrical one for my Live! Value classic. It doesn't take up any slots either. It cost $14 plus $5 shipping.

thnx for the ideas guys. checked out the hoontech card and that's the puppy i'm looking for. more options than CL's at half the price!! just goes to support my wishes even more...go Aureal!! you've got to live!

ok there are 3 varities of these a $14, $25 and $36 one. Which ones can send a AC-3 Signal out to my Dolby Digital receiver for 5.1 channels of audio?? It sounds like they all can... but I'm not sure.

I think I have the 1st version of the live value card (there is a 2x6 row of pins for this to attach to)

The SB DB II and III (the $25 and $36 ones) have both a front and rear co-axial S/PDIF output. Can they not the AC-3 signal for all the speakers through just one port?

The NX DB I, has just one co-axial digital port, am I to assume this port can send the AC-3 Dolby Digital Signal?

You can carry AC3 through one digital port (coax or optical) but the reason they give you 2 on the hoontech module is that modern computer sound cards generate 2 stereo signals (one for front, one for rear), unless you're playing an AC3 (I.E. Dolby Digital 5.1) DVD. Theoretically, you could carry 50 channels of audio through 1 digital port, but it's useless unless both the sender and the receiver can decode and use all channels. In this case, 1 port is a 2 channel dolby digital signal for front output, and 1 port is a 2 channel dolby digital signal for rear output. Your best bet would be to plug one digital out from the hoontech to the digital in on your receiver (for DVDs), and then get 2 stereo minijack-> dual rca adapter cables and then plug those into the appropriate channels on your receivers 5.1 input(for using EAX enhanced apps/games). Just my $.02.

hmmm I see what your saying and that makes alot of sense... I just want to be able to play winamp in surround sound glory and my 5.1 analog inputs are all tied up w/ my DVD player 🙁

I guess I just can't pull it off.
