Hey

I installed my new mobo (epox 8kta3) and new processor today (tbird 1.0), after a few problems with booting, I got it all to work nicely, so i decided to install my voodoo 2 card to compare it in Tribes Glide with my geforce 2 card..so i install the new drivers for that, reboot, but everytime I went into Windows it would just freeze or reboot automatically..so I uninstall the voodoo2, but now when I go in windows, my sound card won't even show up, even after re-installing the card/drivers like 5 times..it doesn't detect it at all, it'll just say "No card found" or something similar. 🙁

So i have no sound right now...even tho my sound card is in the mobo and i got the drivers installed, nothing. It worked fine before installing/uninstalling the voodoo2..that's the hitch.

I thought it might be an IRQ conflict but I'm not sure how to really troubleshoot that..

Please help!
I need my sound real bad

Remove the sound card from device manager then try installing card into pci slot #3. If it doesn'r work, try another slot.

Could be something simple as you jarred the card slightly loose when you removed the voodoo..reseat and try again..it doesnt take much to be unseated

Had to format again, and switch the card around quite alot, and change the IRQ settings in the BIOS before I got it to work..but it still doesn't get detected sometimes..like last night when I installed my printer, I had to re-switch the card again.

thanks for the help 🙂

Looks like you are having an IRQ conflict issue. Try finding out which of your PCI slots do not share IRQ's and install the SB Live! in that slot.

disable the sb 16 dos emulation in hardware. That has to be on irq 5 and refuses to share. I have never in 2 years used the dos emulation so i disable the damn thing in hardware and the problems go away.

You should also reset the PCI configuration in the BIOS everytime you change or add/remove PCI cards. It should be under PCI/PnP option of the BIOS (Award anyway)and is normally "disabled". Enabling it makes the BIOS assign/share available IRQ's. Of course some cards are just more stubborn than others.
