SB Live and AC3 passthrough in Windows 2000

I'm not sure if this is already old news, but if you happen to have PowerDVD 3.0, you can get AC3 passthrough via a "hack" (for a lack of better word) from this site:
http://zap.to/tristan (I got the link from ALive!).

I've already tried it on my SB Live 5.1 and it works great, but I had to use the analog audio cables to get 5.1 to work (I was using a combination of FPS2000 with digital DIN for front and surround, and analog 2.1 speakers for center).

I'm confused, will this allow me to use SPDIF out to my CSW DTT2500 speakers? If not, what good will this do?

I heard vague rumors of it being enabled in SP2 but I have not tried it since it is still beta.

Lore:
There are two patches available at the site, one for the standard SB Live and the other for the SB Live 5.1. I suppose the patch for the SB Live allows you to use SPDIF for your DTT2500, but I have no way of verifying that because I'm using the 5.1 card. Anyway, the patch allows itself to be uninstalled (although I haven't tested that "feature" yet).

Auric:
I've heard from ALive that SP2 is supposed to fix AC3 passthrough too, but according to ALive AC3 is not listed among the SP2 fixes.
