sb live 5.1 question

this may sound stupid but is the difference between the 5.1 sb live cards and non 5.1 a hardware difference, meaning is there something extra on the 5.1 cards that gives it 5.1 hardware support? is it sofware?
how much more would just the card cost, not retail of course, just in value

5.1 decodes dolby digital on-card.

my opinion...not worth upgrading if you already own a live

I have the Non-5.1 Platinum, and use the Videologic DigiTheatre, they work well together.

Currently the 5.1 cards, X-Gamer and MP3, are going for about $60-70 I think. I believe that is the same price as the non 5.1 cards were going for when they were fairly new. The Plat 5.1, my card, retails for $200, but you should be able to pick it up for about $160 with some coupons and what not. I know that the original plats were on clearance for about $99 a while back at CompUSA.
