SB LIVE 5.1 problems get Dobly Digital to work with my receiver?

Whenever i try to play a dvd using MSIDVD player. and i change the audio setup to use spdif output, it gives me an awful hissing noise, during playback. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks for the help
