SB Live! 5.1 optical output

I got a Yamaha reciever and bitchen speakers to hook up to my computer so it will sound nice when I play a DVD, but I can't figure out how to turn the optical output on my SB Live! card on.. Does it only come on when there is full 5.1 output on or something?

Programs > Creative > Sound Blaster Live > AudioHQ > Device Controls > Digitial I/O then click to enable the SPDIF Bypass

ah crap! damn creative labs.. they wont even give a pictoral explination of the outputs on their damn cards.

Anyway, it looks like i'll probably need to get a damn digital I/O card just to get this all to work.

hmm.. well, would there be any other way to get a digital output to my reciever without getting a digital I/O card and using the fiber optical cable?

RPower,

That is supposed to output to receiver from the livedrive optical outs as 5.1? I will try and let you know how I make out.

Ok, did what you suggested and enabled the SPDIF bypass, but this just kills the analog DolbyPrologic signal to my receiver. Anyone else have luck using the live drive digital outputs to their receivers?

Did some researching and apparently if you want to have digital outputs to a 5.1 capable receiver, you need either a TOSLINK-to-minijack (3.5mm??), or 3.5mm-to-RCA for digital output on all LIVE cards.

Also, the Live Drive outputs, SPDIF/Coaxial, and TOSLINK/Optical do NOT support digital output as the 3.5mm mini-output on the back of the LIVE sound card. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.
