SB is almost certainly the Sound Blaster, and since it's in DOS, it's the SB16 emulation that is loaded by default (IRQ 5 if I recall it right). Disable that in Windows in Device Manager (unless you use DOS programs?) and disable it in the autoexec.bat file (Start-Run-"sysedit"; go to autoexec.bat and put REM in front of the line that ends with SBEINIT.COM).

Or, if you need the DOS emulation, move your PCI cards around to try and resolve the conflict. If you look in Device Manager and check the Resources tab for anything with one of those yellow exclamation points, you should find the conflict.

Another possible solution is to enter your BIOS and assign specific IRQs to each of your PCI slots. I've never tried to do that though as it's quite a pain in the ass. :)

Golden Member (I've already forgotten your name ;)), I agree with your assessment of the
other dude's dilemma and all your suggestions are excellent ones. I just want to comment
on your statement about assigning IRQ's to SPECIFIC PCI slots. It's really not that bad at
all, particularly if you keep it to a minimum. I have my BIOS set to assign my Promise
Ultra 66 PCI controller it's own IRQ (IRQ 9). I have "Plug and Play OS" set to "no" and
"assign resources" set to "manual" and have all IRQ's and DMA's set to "PCI/ISA Plug and
Play" except IRQ 5 which I have set to "Legacy ISA". This lets BIOS assign the IRQ's, rather
than windows, and makes sure that the "Soundblaster emulation" for my soundcard gets assigned to
IRQ5 and that the Promise Controller gets its own IRQ (IRQ 9). With a system "loaded" with
PCI cards this works very well for me.
