Thanks, Unforgiven :)

The best way is to use the Service installer that is provided with the application.

Here are some basic destructions to get it set up.
Install/configure the client with your username, proxy settings (if needed) and auto-retry time. Make sure you UNCHECK the box that says "Auto start on Windows Boot". Save settings, then exit the client.
Open up a cmd window, and dir you way to C:\Program Files\SB
Type the following, each on their own line, making sure to press Enter after each:

sobsvc -i
sobsvc -o2
sobsvc -s
sobsvc -m

(Optional settings)
sobsvc -r:200
sobsvc -k
sobsvc -x

Then type:

net start "Seventeen or Bust Service"

You should then see two clients open up :) (To see what those installation switches do, check out the ReadMeNT.txt file in the SB directory)

You need to use the service installer to run 2 instances. Follow the instructions in readme9x.txt or readment.txt, and then run "sobsvc -p:2". (I think. I haven't actually tried it.)

thanx for the info but im not really down with installing projects as a service. is there any way to set the processor usage in the gui or do i just need to run 2 instances of the gui client? do you think i could just add the -o2 switch after the shortcut for the project to make it do the same thing for dual cpu? im gonna try that and see if that works for the standard client and report back.

Nope, no way AFAIK to get it to run two instances without using the service install.

If you want better control over it, then you can always go to the Services control panel and set the type to Manual (rather than Automatic) then just make a batch script with net start "seventeen or bust service" and one for net stop.

I thought there was hardly any benefit (under 5%) to running 2 instances on a HT box compared to just running 1 instance. Can anyone here confirm this?

Yes I am trying to get Unforgiven to give us his whole box to sob and not 1/2 to seti :)

Thanks for returning to sob Geoffs and to EvilWobbles for adding more computers.

We welcome back anyone else who wants to start running again sob again. There must be a lot of you since only 16.5% of the team members submitted work yesterday.

When all the new parts come in, I'll look at giving one processor back to SoB. An Athlon MP 2400+ Ok? ;)

Other processor has to go to md5crk though. :p

I don't see any mention of batch installs on any of the faq pages but maybe someone else here can chime in. I haven't tried to install sob on a bunch of systems but I'm sure someone here can offer some assistance either with a batch install or how they installed it on many computers.

what does the setting "transmit intermediate blocks" mean? does that mean that it wont upload/download until the entire test is done rather than each individual block? their FAQ section for this project is wordy but doesnt really explain the settings for configuration....

Transmit intermediate blocks just reports back to their servers. The only purpose of them is to report to the server so it knows that you are still working on that wu. I think the expiration date is 30 months from your last check in. It also give you accurate stats. Otherwise your daily rate will be really low if it doesn't report back to the server until you are done with a block. Right now I think it takes around 4 days to complete a wu on a fast system.

Do you want something like the DPAD installer you were testing?

If so, then I might be able to cobble something together, as it does just use registry settings, so I should be able to replicate it. It won't happen immediately, as i'm not at work today (ironic, isn't it ;)) but i will do as soon as i can :)

ahh nm... just had to reboot

but that still is somewhat of a problem. I don't want to have to do that on each of the PCs I install it on :p
