I recently installed a SB Audigy 2 ZS sound card. Everything seems to be working fine except I happened to notice a System Error log entry in Event Viewer that occurs at every startup.
This is a Service Control Manager Error that reads: PfModNT service failed to start due to the following error, the system cannot find the file specified.
According to Creative, PfModNT is a detector program that Creative uses to tie the hardware together with applicable software on your hard drives. It also helps during the installation process, and at anytime where redetection is necessary, i.e. changing PCI slots. this error is caused when something is blocking the .sys file from installing. Usually, the cause is an anti virus, system monitor, registry monitor, or some other related service...
Creative recommended I do a "clean sweep" and reinstall the software/drivers in Safe Mode. This was done and all applicable updates were also installed. I did this and the PfModNT error log entry is still there. I disabled all the Creative related startup items in ms config except CTsysVol (volume control) with no effect. The only thing that eliminates this service from trying to start is disabling the PfModNT driver in Device Manager/non Plug and Play devices.
Like I said everything is running fine, even with PfModNT disabled. I just wonder if the cards performance or features are affected in any way by disabling this item.
I am awaiting a call from the Creative Advanced Tech Support Team because their level 1 guys are out of answers. I cannot imagine that I am the only one with this issue because my system is not that unique: P4, Asus P4C800E, Mushkin DDR 400 SDRAM, Seagate 80's (R-0), eVGA 5900XT, XP Home, PcCillin 2004, Adaware...
Unless one visits Event Viewer, one would never see this system log entry...
I installed everything on the Creative Installation & Applications CD except Mini Disc Player (Audigy 2 section) and all the Nomad Jukebox related items (Creative Media Source section).
Anyone have any input on this issue? If you have this card, check Event Viewer for this log entry. Anyone else have it? Thanks...
