I installed an SB Audigy 2 ZS soundcard. It didn't like slot 4 so I now have it in slot 5. Everything seems to be fine. I did a custom install from the Installation and Applications CD. I loaded everything in the Audigy 2 section except the Mini Disc Player and everything in the Creative Media Source section except the Nomad Jukebox related items. I then restarted and loaded the Advanced EAX 4.0 driver that came on a separate CD. Again everything seems to be fine except for one issue that so far Creative has not been able to solve.
No error messages pop up anywhere but in Event Viewer, there is a system log error entry that occurs at every startup. It is a Service Control Manager error that says PfModNT service failed to start due to following error, the system cannot find the file specified.
PfModNT is a detector program Creative uses to tie the hardware together with applicable software on your hard drives. After a "clean sweep" and a reinstall in Safe Mode the error log entry is still there. The only thing that eliminates it is disabling the PfModNT driver in Device Manager/non Plug and Play devices.
Now, all this does not seem to be a big deal aside from the fact that unless it is disabled, it will occur at every startup.
I am awaiting a call from the Advanced Tech Support Team at Creative, the tier 2 guys.
I cannot imagine I am the only one with this issue, my system is not that unique. P4, Asus P4C800E, Mushkin DDR400, Seagate 80's (Raid 0), eVGA 5900XT.
I have a feeling there are many people with Audigy 2's out there who get this error log entry and never know it unless they check Event Viewer periodically. I don't know if this error or disabling this driver has any effect on the cards performance or features.
I would appreciate some input...
