SB Audigy 2 1394 port and DVD-RW?

I just bought an Audigy 2, and love it, but the firewire port won't let me see my DVD or CD drive. I also have a firewire hard drive case on order to add more space.

How do I get my 1394 port on the audigy to see drives?

My system

Albatron KT600
Athlon XP 2700
1GB ram
Radeon 9600XT
Audigy 2
tons of HDs (2TB+)

The 1394 shows up in my network connections, so it is a start, but no dice on the drives. I reinstalled the drivers a bunch of times, both from the CD it came with and online. No dice. Anybody?
 
Yeah, I tried updating the mobo drivers, at your suggestion (though since the card works I doubted it would do anything)

Still no luck. I know the port has power, cause it charged my iPod, and powered my bus powered HD. Any other suggestions?
