I have done everything i can to clean my comp. up, it says there is not much free space, does that mean that a certain amount of memory is being used for something else? It must, now what can i do to give myself more free space for files and junk? I know i can lower how much mb/kb/gb is used for system restore, dnt remember how to do that, is there anything else i can do? --other then get a bigger harddrive.

Uninstall some of your unused programs. Get a new hard drive. You may have a gig or two of free space that you see but that may be used for your pagefile. I may be wrong though.

Use the drive cleanup wizard in XP. Yeah it sounds kinda like a newbie tool but it's quite effective. The biggest thing it does is clear all but the most recent system restore points.

Do NOT disable system restore - bad. Just lower the space used by it and use that disk utility to clean things up (see system properties | system restore tab)

You can clean out $ntservicepackuninstall$ and $NTUninstallKBxxx$ folders from your Windows directory.

You can lower the amount of space used by windows file protection. Search for the KB on adjusting the space it reserves for the dllcache folder.

You can move your pagefile to another drive.

All of the above have drawbacks. Most can save you space but lessen your chances of a recovery in case of system problems.

Go download sequoiaview to get a nice graphical look at where that space has gone. If you're like me you'll surprise yourself with some crap you've left somewhere.
