Say it ain't so...could the problem be the mobo?

I have an epox 8rda+ w/ 2x256mb PC3500 Corsair XMS ram. These two worked fine together for a year, until I pulled the sticks of ram out to clean up my wires. When I put them back in, I got a C1 post, bad memory error.

So, I played around with it some, and determined that one of the sticks worked and the other didn't.

RMA'd to Corsair, got a replacement. Still no luck. I get a C1 post error and the computer won't boot when I have both sticks in.

However, either stick will work fine in slot 1, but if there is a stick in either slot 2 or slot 3 I get the C1 error and can't boot. This leads me to think it's the mobo. Please someone tell me it's something stupid that I'm not thinking of, as I don't see how slots 2 and 3 could suddenly start giving me errors anytime I use them while slot 1 works perfectly fine.

Hi,

Your logic seems sound enough. I'm guessing you haven't played with any BIOS settings that could be bringing this about, in which case the only other thing I can suggest is *carefully* trying to vacuum (with a mini-vac!) the affected DIMM slots. This is a last ditch thing as sometimes this can move excess dust into the slot in a counter-productive way.

Good luck,

Andy

You might want to try resetting the CMOS on your motherboard before you replace it. The manual should provide instructions (usually it involves setting a jumper temporarily).
