NEW YORK - Recently sworn-in U.S. citizen Craig Ferguson is being embraced by his new countrymen: The late-night comic hit a ratings milestone last week with his first victory over NBC's Conan O'Brien.

The CBS "Late Late Show" averaged more viewers than O'Brien's "Late Night" (1.88 million to 1.77 million) for the first week during which they each competed with all-original shows since Ferguson started in January 2005.

It caps a slow and steady climb for Ferguson and raises a red flag for future "Tonight" show host O'Brien, although NBC says it is still happy with O'Brien's audience.

I'm really surprised.. I like Ferguson but couldn't imagine skipping Conan to watch him. I always assumed Conan was way ahead.

I like Conan a LOT more than Ferguson. Last time I watched Ferguson he just seemed like he was trying way to hard, and I like Conan's style of humor a lot more. I think the styles are quite a bit different.
I just hope Conan doesn't have to change his style when he moves to Leno's time slot.

I've seen a couple episodes, and I like Ferguson, but he's no Conan. I don't know if it's just nostalgia, because I have such wonderful memories of Conan from my high school days. In the Year 2000 with Andy at his side? That's some damn good TV right there.

When is Conan taking over the Tonight show? It seems like that show isn't as heavy on sketches and clip humor as Conan typically does, though I'd love to see Conan doing the Jaywalking segments. Jay has to laugh at people to mock them; Conan can speak volumes with one eyebrow.

I had no idea. Although I'm not really going out of my way to watch Conan these days. The skits were always a big draw for me, and they're just not like they used to be. I watched Ferguson recently and was surprised how much better that show seems to have gotten.

Conan still has a better show IMO, but this isn't exactly the best news for Conan's Tonight Show hopes.

Conan wins no matter what. If he doesn't get the Tonight show in 2009, NBC owes him something like 40 million dollars.

That said I too am surprised Ferguson came ahead, I don't know anyone who watches his show. Then again this is what happens when you use Neilson families to calculate viewers, they tend to be abnormal.

I never knew Ferguson even existed until CBS started pushing his video's to YouTube. While he is good, he can't hold a candle up to Conan.

All of Conan's audience is still wasted and passed out after having celebrated the anniversary of the repealing of prohibition.....no one tuned in.

<---was short on funds...

For all I hear about CBS being the #1 network and stuff, I still don't know one person who watches a CBS show.
Mind boggling.

It's a great day in America. Do you know why? I'll tell you why...
Craig's monologues are much better than Conans.

Conan's monologues are like old timey stand-up. He never deviates from his script nor does he give me the feeling that he ever would. Not that it is bad, but if I am going to stay up that late now, I want something else a little edgier.

Craig's on the other hand can be completely off the wall. For example, he speaks of his ex-wife's dog being a carpet muncher. 'I wonder where he learned that?'

After the monologue, I usually go to bed. Conan may have better skits or interviews, but I wouldn't know.

I'll never understand how they capture these ratings any way, I think they're all kind of BS.

I do nothing but channel surf. For instance last night I was surfing between the Denver Nuggets game, the Redwings game, and the Frozen four. As well as this thing on NatGeo. So am I counted as watching all 4 channels during those 3 hours or so of television watching?

This is proof positive to what I'm saying, I don't know one show on CBS that I've ever even hovered over for 3 seconds

There's a few things I watch on CBS. ABC on the other hand... I don't know how they are still in business.

I like Conan a lot, but sometimes he reuses the same jokes and/or news stories 2-3 nights in a row. It always seems to be the jokes that didn't go over well, or just simply went over people heads. That being said, I still prefer Conan over Craig Ferguson.

I don't like either of them.
I also don't like Lenno

I stopped watching the Tonight Show when Carson left.

Ugh... Ferguson and Carson Daily (dude after Letterman) were the worst latenight shows on TV. Both were unfunny and looked like they were trying too hard.

Kimmel is actually ok, but I still prefer Letterman, Leno and Conan.
