Say it ain't so!!! Circuitcity brought back the $200 AOL discount for laptops...

Speaking of AOL, why do people still use that anyhow?

If you cant get what you want from the internet with a regular ISP then you fail at life.

Because AOL adverts come on in between Blue Collar TV and NASCAR?

while i know hits the thing to bash rednecks but that is just stupid.

for years AOL flooded everyone with disk. they would have commercials claiming they were the internet. when the computer"age" started many people thoought AOL was teh way to go. for most it was. it was easy and safe.

now people know you do not need aol to do anything. also with broadband getting popular (nearly everyone i know has either dsl or cable) aol is ****** out of luck. though AOL is trying to adept ($9 for the portal? pfft).

AOL was like kindergarden for internet users it let them get there feet wet and stay safe.

At least they are trying to stay in the business. There are many people that are behind the curve & enjoying it because all they do is emailing once or twice a week.

My local Telco ADSL incentive for singing up @ $30.95 CAD ($27.53 USD) per/mo for 3 years is a free Dell 19? LCD monitor, 1 month free internet & free modem.

I would have gone for the deal, but I'm already with them because I got very poor service with the cable company (5 months of broken cable service, a dozen complaint, no reimbursement due to a rusted connection at the line at the curb).

Wouldn't the aol account cost more than the discount?

Yup, 25.90 per month so thats 310 a year. What idiot would sign up for this, let alone pay this much for dialup?

the idea behind this is if someone is already going to pay for aol, might as well get the computer cheap.

however, anyone actively signing up for a new account...... *shakes head*

Buy it and cancel the contract as soon as you get home. That is why they canceled it, because in CA and Mass you can cancel and still keep the $200 legaly.

There's some video -- I think on videos.google.com -- of some guy spending like 20 minutes just asking AOL to cancel, and the guy keeps giving him the run-around....

It was on the news too... AOL's rep actually asked to talk to the cusomter's dad.

It used to be cheaper than $200 to sign up

Now it's just stupid unless you can cancel the contract and keep the discount somehow

I don't see how CA and Mass will let you legally get out of the written contract.

The written contract is against state law. State law wins.

Compusa did it last year.....

Compusa offered $250 off with a 12-month sub to AOL. I used the Bring your own broadband deal so I pay $14.95/mo. $14.95 x12 = ~$180.00. Since I got $250 off the cost of the laptop, i came out $70 ahead. The AOL commitment will expire in November. If used to your advantage. what's the problem?
