Congratulations, you just spent more then any sane person would on a CPU :p (And yes, I am jealous)

I spent $240 + shipping + brokerage = ~ $280.

Edit: wtf...they lied & charged me $40 for shipping :frown:

So i paid $293.58 to be exact.

You are right about source.

As for shipping, i had zero choices...they only had one (not anywhere close to next-day), & somehow they felt it necessary to bill me for $15 more than originally listed. :(

It's a training site for thousands of retail employees across the US/Canada to learn (i.e, hours of reading Intel propaganda for quizzes, etc).

And occasionally, we get chances to get in on good deals on Intel stuff.

I love my 3007WFP. Absolutely no regrets spending the $1700 or whatever it was on it; it's a great monitor, even by today's standards.

Sadly, today i was waiting for my new PSU to come in, but all day tracking showed as "on truck for delivery".
It never arrived :(
I won't install the CPU till i get the PSU, since it'll be a big PITA i want to get done at once.

Money.

I would never ever spend anywhere close to retail for that CPU even if i could.

I like deals though. :)

I thought this chip is 1000 bucks!? did the recent price drop made it 300?! that's pretty sweet. :] But I'd still get one of the 45nm over this 65nm though. Still excellent price for this. G0.

Did you read anything other than the first post?

He got it from Intel Retail Edge.

Poopy.

VID = 1.35v :(

And holy crapping temps...either this chip is way hotter, or somehow the ICD7 application i did was truely terrible, or a combination of both.

I will admit i had a tough time with applying the ICD7 last time, but my temps from AC5 to ICD7 with my Q6700 inproved by a couple degrees.

But still, i know i didn't do that bad of a job of spreading it, & this chip is minimum 10c hotter with the exact same vcore :Q

Bah...i know, i need water.

On the HX1000 note, wow.
I want to have its babies.

I don't do fancy cable management as i swap components out too much, but sweet lord, this PSU is absolutely perfect for my setup.

So neat & tidy even with my mess of a setup.

HX1000

Forget the diamond stuff man, get something easy to apply. All the hype about diamonds is overrated, based on my experience with TIM

I have AS5 here also, but i've used the ICD7 for a while with my Q6700, & wasn't unhappy with the results.

I re-apply heatsinks & paste alot...at work, & here with my own systems, so i don't really doubt myself much when it comes to my own job.

But i will admit, seeing temps 10c higher is annoying.

Granted, i had the exact same thing happen when i had my two E6600s.

The one with the higher VID actually ran way cooler, pretty much 8C or more actually, but didn't clock as well as the hotter lower VID one.

This time it's the higher VID chip running hotter.

I don't want to say anything till P95 has run for a while longer, but let's just say clocking seems better on this QX6850 than my Q6700...we'll see :p

Apartment is way too hot right now...really not helping temps at all.

Got the case side open for a little more air.

I had it loading into Vista at 3.8 GHz, but it BSODed in P95 very fast.

3.72 GHz = BSOD in P95 after a while, so i dropped below 3.7 for now :(

I am going to have to learn how to tweak GTLs for this mobo methinks, or i won't be getting the 3.7 GHz i'd like.

It's P95 Blend stable for an hour @ 1.4v (all voltages exactly as i had them for my Q6700 @ 3536 MHz). Obviously not done with this at all...lots more tweaking & testing will occur, as well as likely reseating with some AS5.

3.68 GHz load - cozy :\
3.68 GHz idle

wow n7, those temps are still pretty sweet for almost 3.7ghz on a 65nm quad.

Eh, you don't want to know what they were with the case side closed with small FFTs...

I dunno why this chip is so much hotter...

I could do 1.45v on the Q6700 & get better temps than this one.

I already know reseating is going to do little to improve temps, but eh...

Just was really hoping to have the option of doing around 1.45v if the clocks were enough better to jusify it, but right now, there's no way i can go over 1.4v.

Is this with the unlocked multi? Given that quads have poor FSB overclocking, that should prove interesting.

Yeah it's lapped.

Temps in my apartment are like 10c lower this morning, so it's a lot better now.

Yes it's an unlocked multi, but all that means is that i could run a really low FSB if i wanted.

My board doesn't have trouble with 442 MHz FSB though; haven't tried higher.
The unlocked multi isn't really much help on this mobo though TBH; just don't need anything really higher than 10x.
I will experiment more with low FSB + tight tRD later.

She ran P95 all night @ 3.7 GHz w/o errors :D

I can live with 3.7 GHz.

Now to figure out what RAM ratio to use...:p
