For what its worth, President Obama, after much consultation on the subject, has released a statement on the Iranian protests.

It may not satisfy Chambliss who seeming advocates a do something anything for US imperialism, but Obama as President is in charge of US foreign policy, and ole Saxbe, as a mere Senator, has no seeming overall plan at all.
As I look at the Obama statement, it seems to strike a somewhat perfect balance, supporting the Iranian people's right to peacefully redress their government for satisfactory resolution and sending the message that both and the USA and the international community will take a dim view of any Iranian government violent crackdown. And as a Goldilocks not too hard and not too soft initial response, it not only forms a template for future actions, it gives the Mullahs no ammunition to accuse the US of internal Iranian meddling. And meanwhile building on his prior Cairo speech as he addresses the wider Muslim world that also has a dog in the fight.
