Saweet Sound Card ? Which one ?

Might dump my Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer (not 5.1).
If I sell it to this guy, what should I get instead ?
I like watching DVD's and need at least 4 channels, play games, basically everything.

I liked the X-Gamer pretty well but I'm thinking this would be a good time to get a new one since I can sell it ..

Thanks !

I've got a GTXP, and it's definitely saweet 🙂 No complaints here, except for the fact that when my wife wants to plug her camera into the USB port, I don't get to see her squirming around on the floor....

Sorry about that last bit 🙂

I have the turtle beach santa cruz.
This card is amazing in Windows 2000. Totally blows away my old Live value.

the GTXP is also a great card. 🙂

another vote for Santa Cruz (but you should get a compatible software DVD-decoder) check the site to find out which softwares work with it).

I have used the SB Live Platnium 5.1, Philips AE, and the Herc GTXP, and the Philips AE was the best DVD performer by far in my opinion. QMSS is pretty amazing with most DVD's... Gaming is pretty equal between the GTXP and the AE, but sometimes QMSS can be slightly more accurate than the GTXP...

Another vote for the AE. I think its better than the Santa Cruz in DVD and gaming. The Win2K drivers are pretty good too. Havent had any problems at all using the latest drivers.

i have a Live! 🙁 but, i would vote for the AE... i have heard it on several computers, and it sounds very good, on half decent speakers...

I would chose the AE of the SC.. but not of the Hercules!!!

for price/performance... = AE..

If you just have the xgamer, a Herc XP is probably not something you need.

TB SC or Phillips AE would be good, my vote is for the SC because that's what I have 😀

THe differences between the AE and SC seem to be a tossup though, I don't know any real differences. I just know they'll beat a Live senseless in every category.

The Santa Cruz is far more reliable under Win2K than the Philips AE. Even with their "new" drivers, I've found the card has incompatibilities with (in particular) VIA 686B which make it a bad choice. Santa Cruz, OTOH, has none of these problems.

I agree with Insane3d. I've used the Game Theater XP, Santa Cruz, and Sound Blaster and I prefer the Philips Acoustic Edge. The QMSS is really nice. Once you've used it for awhile and try something else, you really tell where it makes a difference. The breakout box is nice on the Game Theater XP, but I didn't care for the card at all.

4-speaker downmixing doesn't work in ANY software DVD player in Win2K with the latest Santa Cruz drivers. For those reasons alone, I'm ceasing recommendations of the card.

This was to be expected; Turtle Beach's driver support history is pretty mediocre. Not much better than that of Creative, I might add.
