Ah bullsh1t. I hate this argument. It's just such a baseless argument that its impossible to rebut. I hear plenty of emotion. His playing evokes emotion from me. Therefore it has emotion. Steve Vai has tons of emotion in his songs, too, although everyone applies that argument to him. Besides, Yngwie plays neoclassical guitar. I.E. it's basically classical music with modern instruments. You never hear anyone call Mozart, Beethoven, or Bach "emotionless." Classical music is some of the most technically demanding music ever. It takes years and years of practice to be even called competent on any "classical" instrument. Now I dare you to go up to Itzhak Perlman or Yo Yo Ma's face and tell them they have no "emotion."

And you know what? I think BB King sucks.

Asshole or not, "I am a Viking" will always live on as the world's best song, ever.

:)

Slight exaggeration = yes. Awesome and pointless song = yes.

I am 43, and played in many hair bands in the 80's- saw Yngwie once here in Albany, NY, and to this day it was the loudest friggin concert I have ever heard- only concert I ever walked out on. He is amazing, but I wanted to approach the guy running his board, and ask him if he was friggin deaf, cause he had the mains cranked up so high, the volume HURT. I was wadding up my concert stub at one point, and tried shoving it into my ears, but it didn't help. He had Joe Lynn Turner singing back then, and the vocals were so distorted, it sucked.

EDIT:
MogulMonster- Dream Theater is my favorite band- saw them during their Images And Words tour a while back - amazing band.

Logically, you make a good argument. But I can't help what I feel. And his playing just feels dry to me. He's awesome, but he sounds like machine would sound playing guitar.

Uh, NO! Iron Maiden was the 9th highest grossing band last year. Many 80s bands have made a successful comeback because the Generation Xers (roughly 30 - 45 age group) are getting tired of listening to the same lame music over and over again on the radio.

I don't really mind if Yngwie doesn't appeal to you, I'm not trying to force him onto anyone. It just pisses me off that every technically skilled guitarist immediately gets labeled as unemotional. I can't think of one that I haven't heard called that.

I saw Yngwie open for AC/DC in the 80's in Philadelphia, what a great show. It must've been good, I can still remember it, whcih is incredible considering the state I was in at the time.
