Saw Yngwie Malmsteen in a club last night (3/19)

It was AWESOME to say the least. It was a smaller venue/bar so we were able to stand about 20-25 feet from the stage and at least nobody was pushing or any of that crap that often comes with concerts. I have never in all my life seen a guy play like that. He has unbelievable talent on that guitar. He is so fast it just blew my mind, and his band was pretty good too. The singer actually sounded really good live and could really belt out the high notes. We also got a good drum solo out of it. He threw out a ton of picks all night and I got one of them, so that's a bonus. The only problem is, it was so loud (probably the loudest concert I've been too and I recently saw Metallica) I have muffled hearing this morning, I'm hoping it goes away soon (the muffledness, not my hearing ). If you get a chance to see Yngwie I highly recommend.

He didn't see like an asshole that night. He played to the crowd quite a bit. He did some guitar tricks like flipping it up in the air and spinning it around his body (while on the strap). He played pretty much metal stuff with the occassional acoustic solo throw in. I thought the band put a lot of emotion into it actually. The club was called the Cadillac Ranch in Concord, CA.

I just checked TicketMaster to see if Yngwie is going to be in Seattle anytime soon and I see that he's touring with George Lynch. Now that's a show I wouldn't mind seeing.

Sounds like everyone has been reading the same articles and is just following along with whatever the media is printing. Who are you to say his music and/or playing lacks emotion? I don't really know how anyone can judge if a player is playing with emotion or not. When he was on stage he was kicking some ass and they sounded very close to their album music (which is more than I can say for a lot of musicians, esp. the singers). Anyway I thought it was one of the better concerts I have ever been too but part of the reason could be b/c I was so close and it was a smaller club, they are always better than the huge arenas where you have to watch the concert on the jumbotron or something.

You are confusing him with RITCHIE BLACKMORE - another great guitarist who DID play with Rainbow and now plays renaissance-stlye music with a female singer as Blackmore's Night

I saw him with Satch and Vai at the Riviera (Chicago) last fall. That was amazing, but seeing him in a small club would be great. His technical skill is absolutely amazing. I don't see how you guys can fault him for that. Unlike most rock/metal guitarists, he doesn't have to fudge anything, because he's just that good. I don't think he really lacks emotion, but I do think that he lacks a lot of social skill. He really isn't a jerk, he just isn't the brightest guy out there.

Just saw Dream Theater on Friday, also at the Riviera, and Petrucci and Myung were incredible to watch.
