OK so I've just watched the opening scene to Saw VI and it's not really entertaining, just kind of sickening. The only other Saw movie I've seen is the first one - that was quite a while ago but by memory it was a more well thought out thriller type scenario - not really just a
"cut off your arm if you want to live
snuff film. Is this what all the other Saw movies are like?

Not sure, but sounds like some of these movies could be called "Horror-Porn."

Yeah, they're all like that. Makes me wonder what kind of person enjoys this kind of thing.

a lot of people, apparently. kind of frightens me to think about it.

mindfuck 'that would be the worst thing in the world' scenarios are bad enough, adding in the grisly imagery ('horror porn' seems like an apt description) makes it seem like something marketed to psychotics to me.

as snuff films go, they are the best of the lot.

do i watch final destination to watch how people die in a creative way? sure.
same with any horror film, just these two series are more direct about it.

I watched three of them, I did not know that they made so many. The three that I watched were pretty much the same, for all practical purposes.

analogy fail. i play games for fun, not to see an up close picture of what it would look like if i cut someone to pieces and decorated my living room with their entrails.

I wouldn't call any of the films in SAW "snuff films"

A snuff film is a motion picture genre that depicts the actual death or murder of a person or people, without the aid of special effects.

The Video Tape of the beheading of Reporter Michael Berg by Al Quaida terrorists was a Snuff Film.

The SAW films are Horror, plain and simple.

If you've missed out on all the others then you probably wont understand much.

I agree that Saw 1 was more of a good crime thriller with slightly more blood than most other crime thrillers. But 2 through 6 are really just horror movies with slightly more plot than most horror movies.
If you can sit through them they are still decent entertainment, but mostly they just remind me of Se7en, which is far superior in all ways.

They're not horror movies. Horror movies are scary. These aren't scary, they're just sick.

The movies are complete crap. Even the first one was borderline poop. Now they are about as entertaining as watching a fox slowly gnaw its own leg off to get out of a trap.

Horror genre is more than just "scary". It also involves any kind of strong creepy or frightening thing. Saw never suddenly tries to scare you, but it certainly causes one certain discomfort at times.

All movies play on Emotion. The best movies succeed at coaxing an Emotional response from the Viewer. Based upon that, the Saw series are very good.

I felt extreme boredom and some loathing.

I'll never get these types of movies either. It's just disgusting imo. I really can't believe they've done so well that they actually made 6 of these movies.

My uncle likes these types of movies, but he's a bit odd. He's a Vietnam vet too, so I don't know if that kind of skewed his brain a bit or what.

I'm perfectly fine not seeing blood and gore in movies. If the movie is good enough, it doesn't need it and I don't even notice the lack of it.
