I saw a display unit a Sony store hooked up to a Blu Ray player. All I can say the quality is WOW either from afar or near...

Can't wait the day when 40 or 50 inch OLED TVs or Monitor become a common place...in the meantime, I'll live with my L220X..

I think this is one of the few product in many many years that is noteworthy of sony name.

Very excited about more competition in the market.

Plasma & LCD have had the run for a while. (sorry, I can't condone projection)

OLED's a good start. Then we'll need something even better than that!!!

Push the envelope!! :clock:

doesnt that thing flicker like mad? It's like a 60hz CRT or something. The contrast is amazing though. right now I'm loving my Dell 2707 though... moreso than my 46" Bravia simply because I've calibrated my 2707.

Exactly!! Who in their right mind would want one? And OP, it's extremely easy to be wowed when viewing such a small screen. I really don't understand why Sony bothered bringing it to market.

For marketing purposes and for a one finger salute for Samsung who said they couldn't bring it to market ;P

They have one setup at the Sony Store just down the way and I thought it looked ok, but it is impossible to get a real feel on such a small screen.

Call me when they have something >42" for <$5,000.

Nice to see (relatively) large OLED displays showing up in the market. Really I don't know how screens can get much better, OLED has significantly higher contrast ratio, lower response time, better color reproduction, etc. Really the only downsides are lower lifespan of blue elements (which has been "fixed" I think, they've now got it to where lifespan is comparable to LCD and plasma technologies, and as manufacturing techniques get more efficient lifespan will only increase) and Kodak owning the patents on the technology.

Just have to wait for the prices to drop. Hopefully in five years or so these will start to replace LED and plasma. :)

I heard it works really good with b00-way when you super glue the front of the screen with them. And it becomes scratch proof, too!

Probably to start working out how to produce these efficiently and cheaply on a large scale.

That's what R&D is for.;) Bringing it to market when it you can't even give it an HD native resolution, was really jumping the gun. Who but the biggest spendthrift is going to buy one?

Well i'd just like to chime in that I saw one in person as well yesterday and my jaw dropped. Watching a CG BD was so insane, even on such a small display, I actually said 'wow' out loud :)

It was stunning to see in person.

My jaw dropped when I saw it was $2500 for 11 inches of screen. But still, it's a start... I think.

When they have a 60" with all the kinks worked out and for under $5000, let me know. I'm estimating 5-7 years from now.

I'm guessing longer than that. From what I've been told, the XEL-1 has a life span of about 5000 hours.
