The Best Buy employee that I asked said it was promotional pricing but wouldn't say for how long the promo was going for. Could they be lowering pricing in anticipation for Walmart?

LOL, a whopping $10 off versus the price + 2 years of phone & data contract is pretty damn insulting if you ask me...

What does it work out to? Around $3,500?

No wonder this country is hosed financially

The only way to really measure the value of an item like that is to go by the outright purchase price with no contract. Many carriers now offer full price with no contract activation on a month to month basis. The buyer owes nothing down the road.

What am I missing? $70/month * 24 months + $200 = $1880.

That said, I admit that I'm a bit shocked at everyone buying an iPhone - $70/month for one phone is above my budget. I only got mine because I could have it and shove it on T-Mobile... I agree with you that the price for an iPhone is really high - and that $10 is not much of a discount. I'm still amazed at all the people saying that the new iPhone is cheaper than the original one (taking contracts for 2 years and the price increase for the data plan, the reverse is true).

Yep, the subsidized phones confuse people, when I'm due for an upgrade or renewal, I get the most heavily subsidized phone & sell it on eBay after TMobile unlocks it for me.

I keep thinking in 2 week intervals, doggone pay periods. Still too much money, I have 4 lines on a family plan with My Faves unlimited texting, 1200 shared minutes, and the data plan for $110/month. I have one TMobile phone on the plan(s) a Dash daughter's BF uses... They both turned down the offered 4GB iPhone refurbs I scored last week, and want the Dash II's when they come out.

I just gave up the ghost on the G1, had TMobile kill the data plan and went with the $9/month plan, reflashed my 8GB iPhone and upgraded the OS finally.

TMo is getting more particular about data plans too, they wanted my IMEI #, we chatted a bit and the CSR told me to add a Moto phone to my online profile and then add the $9 data plan to it, worked like a charm...
