Roofers were bringing roof rolls up a commercial (flat) roof, but they had this electric troly that latched on the ladder and it actually moved the rolls up automatically! It was like a mini elevator. Just needed a guy at the bottom to load it and guy on top to unload it.

What a time to be alive.

Pretty sure they've been around a lot longer than 5 years, all the ones I see are gas powered.

Me and my guy were at a house about 8 years ago that was getting roofed. Tall roof they had a 36 footer all the way extended. They had this scrawny young kid grabbing two bundles of shingles at a time and humping them up this ladder in the 90+ degree heat. He looked like he was going to fall out at any minute, shaking on the ladder. All the older guys on the roof were just yelling hurry the fuck up what are you doing were out of shingles. My helpers advice, hey you should tell your boss to get one of those ladder lifts. Poor kid. He eventually got the whole skid up there but hes lucky he didn't get heat stroke and fall off the ladder. I would of quit fuck all that.

... You must live in the 18th century. I have seen those since 1990, when I got to Canada.

Indeed!

I heard rumours that someone is going to invent metal behemoths that can replace horses. Balderdash!

Iron horse duh!

Funny anectode, in Taiwanese, bicycles can be referred to as iron horse or the Taiwanese pronounciation of Kanji for Jitensha (Japanese)

That's how you become a man, if you don't die first. My first part time job at 15 was helping an HVAC guy work in attics in New Orleans in the summer.

Carrying bundles of 35 year shingles up a ladder is probably the hardest thing you're going to do in construction. It's doubly bad if it's in the middle of summer. Carrying sheets of drywall or plywood is a close second. Of course attics in the summer and tight crawlspaces also suck.

Even in the 70's they just did roof top delivery around here. Seems safer, and much faster than that ladder lift.
