Saw the Canon Digital Rebel the other day...

It's not really that big...did you have misconceptions about what a DSLR really was or what? 😛

it's atleast 1.5 times bigger than I expected... 🙁

That's about the normal size for DSLR's (and probably regular SLR's too) as far as I'm aware....just get an A75 or something. 😛

Agreed, it is fairly big which ruled it out for me.

Take a look at the Pentax *istD or *istDS. Have the *istD and satisfied with it.

I was drooling over...um...I mean looking at both the DRebel and Nikon's D70 at bestbuy today, and they are both quite large. If you want something smaller, your best bet may be a Pentax *ist DS or Olympus E-300 (Evolt), though I admittedly haven't seen the olympus in person, so I don't know how *much* smaller that one might be.

someone recommend a MUCH smaller DSLR 🙂

I change my mind!

maybe you should put some thought into what kind of camera you need since it is obvious that you have no clue what you're doing.

Wow. Just wow. So I guess you wouldn't carry this around then? 😀

Not everybody wants to blow 2x or 3x (or more, if you shoot film) the cost of a camera on a single lens 😛 (I'm guessing that's one of Canon's high-end (IS possibly?) lenses? The sheer size alone suggests a rather high cost.

That's why you should have two cameras. I use my DSLR for most general tasks and my EDC (Every Day Carry) is a Canon Power Shot SD20. It's great to have the capablility (5MP) and be able to shoot 640x480 video in a package smaller than most cell phones!

I EDC it because I travel a lot and there is a lot of foolya out there and you never know when you will see something that begs to be shot. I also chase storms and if the need arises I can get footage quickly without having to lug a lot of expensive equipment everywhere.

Cheers!

A75

You're not going to find a much smaller DSLR. If you want compact, then get a regular camera don't bother with going professional.

I don't know what an RX lens is.

The 200mm f/1.8 has been discontinued for quite a while now. It's quite a unique lens, and now that it's getting hard to find it's drawing quite a cult following among Canon shooters. I got mine used right after it went out of production for $3000. I've seen them going regularly for $4500 now. That's just the lens, you don't get a camera with it 😛 It's the fastest 200mm autofocus lens ever made, and is also one of the sharpest lenses ever made. The lens itself weights almost seven pounds, and it doesn't have any front filter threads because the front element is almost six inches across and no one makes filters that big.

Doesn't it have drop-in filters on the back of the lens?

And that APS camera really isn't that much smaller and it had a sh!tty lens on it🙂

Yeah, you can get drop in filters for it.

Are you taking pictues of the moon?
Not much good as a moon lens I'm affraid. That's my 200mm f/1.8.
Nice lens. 😛

I should post a picture of my manual focus film SLR with the accessories needed for extreme closeups (macro at 1:1 or higher)... Wally (you used to be Lirion right?) uses a modern setup that - the last time I saw a picture - was more compact and much lighter than mine.
