EDIT: Spoilers at the bottom. It's marked off so you don't read by accident
Got a chance to be the first audience in the world to see T3: rise of the machines last night. It was held on base at a special invitation only event. Jay Leno showed up and brought the T3 director and of course, Arnold with him. It was great hearing arnold say thanks for the sacrifices of the military-- i've heard he's traveling overseas now to allow the deployed troops to see the movie. I think it's a great gesture in light of all the hollywood anti-military sentiment. Great to know theyre not ALL anti military.
As far as the movie goes, it freakin ROCKED. It's hard to compare it to the 2nd one because it was a bit different. Linda Hamilton was definitely missed this time around. Claire Danes was good, but didn't have the same effect as Hamilton. Arnold was his usual badass self, albeit a lot more humorous this time.
I think the movie was just as enjoyable as T2, if not more, though it had a different feel to it. It was like the difference between spiderman and the first batman. Batman had this cool "dark" feel to it, courtesy of tim burton. Spiderman was also a good movie, but didn't have that coolness to it, you know? It's a bit hard to explain. Definitely worth going to see, though.
Amazing that arnold is 50+ years old now i think, and still looks like a freakin rock. The female Terminator (TX) was a nice touch, though i think it would have been cool if they gave arnold some technical enhancements as well. The machines keep sending back more advanced terminators, and arnold stays the same. At least the storyline is consistent, though. They made a lot of references back to T2, so fans will appreciate the continuity. Special effects were awesome, as usual, though i didn't come out of the theater like i did when arnold froze the t1000 and shattered him. You'd think that with all the detailed files arnold had, he would have some idea of how to kill the TX besides the tried-and-stupid methods of using small arms and explosives. All in all, though, great movie.
************************SPOILERS BELOW************************
Ok, well i'm not going to ruin the whole movie, but most of you already know what it's about anyway. TX (female terminator) is sent back through time to "prevent the human resistance from causing problems." Note the intentional ambiguity. Then "someone" (more ambiguity) sends the T800 back (arnold) to prevent the TX from accomplishing her mission. I think most of your questions will be answered in the movie. One thing to note is that the time travel problems that plague EVERY time travel type movie are still there.
i.e.
"if we send someone back to the past, they will create an alternate universe when they change anything. Because causality states that we cannot "undo" things that are already done. Unfortunately, all of us stuck in THIS universe don't even notice that the original time travelers DID anything because we dont see the changes"
anyway, those who have read up a little on it know what im talking about. It's a common paradox in time travel movies. T3 assumes the same thing that T2 does: that we live in 1 universe with no alternate realities and those that change the past will alter OUR future.
This means that because the terminators have come back in time, you can assume that judgement day DID happen sometime after T2 ended. Soemthing happened and judgement day happened, because the machines are OBVIOUSLY in the future, sending terminators back through time to fix things.
Btw, it has nothing to do with the arm stuck in the wheel in T2.
If anyone wants more detailed spoilers, let me know and i'll be happy to oblige.
