saw some guy with a shopping cart vandalize a porsche carrera

my friends and i were loitering in a parking lot after we finished eating at a restaraunt in rowland heights, ca. by loitering i mean the normal chit chat before going off our separate ways. we heard this huge "BANG" sound and i looked around. there was this guy in the parking lot in the adjacent shopping center who ... from a distance started running and rammed a shopping cart full speed into a porsche in the parking lot. mind you, it was 11pm and the parking lot, while well lit, was fairly empty since all of the stores were closed or closing up. he started yelling, kinda flailing his arms around. then he did it again several times from different angles ... front, back, side. then he shoved the cart really really hard into an early generation honda accord. it sounded as if it left a nice dent on the front bumper.

we were freaking disturbed cuz this kind of stuff never happens in the suburbs. its something you expect in a larger city (crazy drunk people) but nothing ever like this happens around here.

i tried calling 911 but i got that recorded message where it says "if this is an emergency blah blah blah." i knew it wasn't an emergency although it was pretty messed up so i hung up. when it appeared he had left, my friends and i went down to look at the car. pretty messed up. huge dents/scratches on both doors. a hole in the front bumper/headlight/blinker section. it'll be a pretty penny to fix.

as we were walking back to our cars the guy started running toward us pushing the same shopping cart. we quickened our pace to get out of there asap. we didnt want that freaking crazy guy to start jamming that cart into our cars. so he caught up to me he asked if i spoke english (rowland heights is a highly populated chinese area) and asked me if i could help him. i was so flustered i was like ... "sorry bro ... no can do." as he ran off to talk to some other ppl in the parking lot i quickly got in my car and scooted out of there. then i thought of calling 411 and the local sheriffs dept. got in touch with someone and they said they'd send some deputies out later. probably wont catch the guy. too bad because im sure that porsche owner is gonna be pissed. i would be hecka pissed if i found my car like that.

lots of things i could have done differently but my instinct was to just get out of the area before that guy went buck wild on my car or my friend's car. i really hope they catch that guy.

cliff notes: drunk/mentally challenged guy vandalizes porsche carrera ... pretty insane. wish i had a camera so i could provide pics.

This is why you should bring a digicam w/ you at all times. And of course a tranquilizer gun if the subject charges.

seriously, this type of thing doesnt happen in our area. we basically live on the edge of the OC. i was talking to some of those friends on the phone after we left and they were saying how this type of stuff wouldve been expected/normal in berkeley or even in LA ... but out here ... man thats freaking weird.

Hmm... closest thing I've seen similar (maybe not)... drug deals at K-mart... or... seeing a datsun ram into an electricity pole and knocking it over.

Edit: Be a vigilante.

I'd say that would have been a "legit" 911 emergency.

A crazy man bashing a shopping cart into a car while in itself may not technically be an "emergency."
It would be a good idea though to get the man off the street and into a secure environment so he is no longer a danger to others and to himself .
Otherwise there is a good chance that a) someone hurts crazy man or b) crazy man hurts someone.

if you dial an operator and tell her to connect you to the local police, they will do so.

man oh man... i would be freakin pissed if it were my porsche...

I hate when people say sh!t like this. Stuff like this does happen in the suburbs, it is just people can hide easier there. Next time I hope they replace the porsche with your head.

i don't consider rowland hts "suburbs." Just a bunch of wannabe ricers around there. I like to go along colima to eat, but, some people ther are dumbarses.

people hide easier? i dont understand quite what youre saying. i grew up in this area and i never saw anything like this my whole life. this is not the norm. youre saying the reason it seems more obvious in bigger places like the cities is because people arent smart enough to hide? that doesnt make sense.

edit: clarification w/grammar

true dat

Sheesh, you had a phone handy, and car(s) to follow the guy. Apparantly you weren't that concerned, or you could have helped a little more. BTW, out here in the "suburbs", it wouldn't have taken cops or local sheriffs dept. more than a couple minutes to get there.

umm thank's for doing your part for the rest of us.

If you had to flee the scene, don't you think that was an EMERGENCY?

jesus. I think people that have this lack of responsibility deserve to be partially accountable for the crime.
