Saw R.E.M. Last Night

What kind of old stuff did they play? I used to be a big REM fan during the late 80s and early 90s. Can't say I really care for much of their stuff after Monster. Curious what older songs they do. Any chance Superman, Driver 8, or Rockville made an appearance?

Best REM show I recall seeing was the final stop on the Green tour at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. They played all of "Murmur" (in order) and then played all of "Green" (in order). It was fscking great.

REM is a groundbreaking band. Kurt Cobain was a fan before Nirvana was Nirvana. That being said, I wouldn't pay to see them. No offense - we all have our tastes. I liked some of their songs my friends used to play me when I was quite a bit younger. But then "Shiney Happy People" started getting run on radion and MTV? That song made me want to kill people. Specifially them.

Anyhow, glad to hear you enjoyed the show. 🙂

EDIT: grammatikul errers

Below is the setlist from last night. On their tour last year they mixed up the set lists more than I think they will this tour, namely because they were taking suggestions from the fans. The result was hearing everything from Shaking Through to Get Up. Their current rendition of Life and How to Live it seriously rocks though, that maybe the highlight for me.

The setlist:
Finest Worksong
These Days
Animal
Boy in the Well
Imitation of Life
I Wanted to Be Wrong
Star 69
Wanderlust
Bad Day
Electrolite
Leaving New York
Exumbing McCarthy
The One I Love
Final Straw
Losing My Religion
Walk Unafraid
Life and How to Live It

Encore:

Drive
Begin the Begin
What's the Frequency, Kenneth?
Permanent Vacation
I'm Gonna DJ
Man on the Moon

Yes, you've mentioned that to me before, which is why I initially hated you. 🙂 Now you've just fueled the fire!

I saw REM at Merriweather Pavilion in Maryland about 4 years ago and it sucked. It was so mellow and uneventful. You could tell the crowd was just waiting for a song they could dance too, but instead, they played all their funeral dirge songs. I wish I could have seen them in the good old days. 🙁

We did an acceptable cover of Drive. No problems with the lyrics on that one 😛

There acutally is VHS footage of us at a local "battle of the bands" but I have no idea who's got the tape these days.
