Never really heard of a store only accepting a specific card, if they have a CC machine won't all cards work? Thought they all used the same protocol basically.

Well they used to accept all debit cards regardless of type. Maybe the mastercard was a debit card.

They dropped AMEX a little while ago.

Now they take Mastercard and VISA.

To add to the story, the idiots were trying to use someone else's costco member card ("it's my 'partner's' card"; lol yeah right). Can't believe they let them check out.

We always used to do this in college because they never cared to check. After a while they started to match the member card to the debit card, but didn't care if you paid cash. I still think you can get away with it since the photos are such shit.

By any means, the only thing I go to Costco for anymore is booze, and you don't need a membership for that.

You can use Mastercard at US Costco locations but you have to use as debit card. Visa is only charge card accepted at US Costco locations. However, Costco.com accepts all credit cards including Mastercard, Amex, and Discover.

But Costco Canada only takes Mastercard for charges and not Visa. If you want to use Visa at Costco in Canada, you have to use as debit card. Just as Visa has exclusive deal with US Costco, Mastercard has exclusive deal with Canada Costco.
