In the Final Cut they change the number that were "friend in an electrical field" from 1 to 2, so he wasn't one of the original escapees as some people had suggested in previous versions.

Hey, you guys forgot about Logan's Run, which is far from a perfect future! I think that Logan's Run is a cult classic, and worthy of a look!

Blade Runner is an important film, period.

I'm not sure I can logically process that statement in any coherent way.

Also, the way they kill themselves in the end instead of killing the main character or instead of having him kill them is a nice touch that adds to the feel of the movie.

Umm...which version did you see?

I had never seen it until we watched it for my Cinema and Violence comparative lit class. I really liked it (especially after we discussed it in class).

bevy of special features for it as well.

and you've seen nothing till you seen it in hd.
the detail is amazing.

Yeah I understand it exists in Blu-Ray! And I have a very good setup for watching it in HD. I'll have to see if I can get a hold of it.
I just got my Blu-ray copy in the mail today. Warner home video has a 25% off coupon this month.

There was a great documentary on Google Videos about the making of the movie and the trouble it went through. A really interesting video -- but I can no longer find it on there nor can I remember the name :(

dangerous days?
i dunno, it was one of the documentaries on the 5 disc edition. ~3 hours

It will always remain in my mind as one of the best sci-fi movie ever made. The setting and soundtrack were just superb to set the right mood and tone.

Sci-fi as a genre is full of so many craptacular movies & TV shows, that one is forced to relish what few gems we have. BR is one of the few intelligent film in this genre.

For those who didn't enjoy it the first time around, you may want to give it a second shot later on. When I first saw it (I was really young) I missed a lot of things. The movie requires a steep thresh hold in terms of attention span. There's a reason why it's a subject in English papers and a Film class study subject.

All of the earlier sci-fi was the junk like plan 9 from outer space and they came from mars and stuff. The movie still being relevant even 25 years later is just amazing.

2001 had some pretty good special effects.

Over the years, I collected various formats and versions of the film... besides the old VHS tapes, I now have the Embassy laserdisc, the Criterion laserdisc, the original 1997 DVD version (one of the first DVDs ever made, featuring only the Director's Cut), and now I've just acquired the 4-DVD Complete edition and the HD-DVD Ultimate pack... that's without mentioning documentaries and bootlegs... also the New American Orchestra "orchestral version" soundtrack LP, the Vangelis official soundtrack CD and other more or less "official" releases...

Farrah Fawcett! The number one hottie back in the day!

I liked the movie when it came out but it is so dated now, it's hard to watch. Even before Logan's Run was Westworld, another classic IMo, and then there's Tron which came out the same year as BR.

BTW, if you want to see an old 80s comedy sci-fi, a la Spaceballs, check out Ice Pirates. Not quite as funny as Spaceballs but pretty good.

Read the book. The movie is horrible compared to the book.

PS the book is called Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K. Dick

I disagree 100%. I have read the book and preferred the film version. I felt the book's tone was off, and it was too full of unrealized ideas that detracted from the main vision of the book.

My thought is the direct opposite because of the same thing :) But then I am a sucker for PKD

I had the same problem when I first wiped it. It was so hyped that when I watched it my expectations weren't fulfilled. It's a neat movie and has some great sci-fi stuff in it though! Plus Ford is always awesome :)
