Saw a Really Bad Crash Today

Looked like a moped with rider + passenger had smashed into the front of an Audi A4 (the front of the car was completely ****** like it had crashed into a lamp post), just drove past the spot though and there's really thick skidmarks where it happened. But i'm not quite sure the circumstances. My friend saw it happen but haven't had chance to speak yet.

There was pints of blood splattered all over the road and two helmets and a neck brace saturated in blood scattered around the place, along with bits of car and bike. I think someone must have died, they closed off the whole stretch of road for hours, had traffic police, forensics and everything there.

I've had my heart set on getting a bike ever since i was little but i don't know if i could put my parents through something like that, also scares the hell out of me, imagining what the few seconds before the crash were for the people, i've been close to dying a few times and those few seconds really arent nice, and the feeling of being seriously hurt, before the pain kicks in... Really horrible :(

Hope everybody involved is ok.. My heart goes out to the families.

Yea but that feeling of being on a bike really cant be beaten... Was a really nice day, the first one we've had for a few months too. I did hear they were trying to overtake, was really busy traffic...

The way i think of it is that if its my time to go, its my time to go, and everything happens for a reason, sad as it is i guess it was someones time to go today. I'll try and get a link if it gets on the news, i checked about 6 hours after and nothing so maybe tomorrow...

If I ever get in a crash, this is why I like knowing that I have 4000lbs of metal wrapped around me.

I'd say most motorcycle accidents are caused by inexperience and/or poor judgement on the part of rider. You really have to assume that people in cars don't see you at all times. If you start getting cocky that's usually when you do something stupid and get yourself off'd. I know guys who've ridden motorcycles their entire lives and never had an injury. I think everyone goes down at some point but if you wear the proper gear, take the time to really learn how to ride and don't do anything stupid you stand an excellent chance of not becoming a statistic.

Oh, and always wear a helmet.

Lots of motorcycle accidents are caused by careless people in cars too ... turning left or pulling out suddenly in front of a bike is the most common & somtimes it doesn't matter how careful or experienced you are.

Having said that, I've been riding 20+ years & have only gone down on my own, however I've been lucky.

Which is exactly why you, as a motorcyclist, have to be alert and always assume that cars don't see you. It does matter how careful and experienced you are. An experienced rider will ride defensively and put his/her bike in the best possible position to deal with the unexpected. I'm not saying that careless drivers aren't the cause of a great many motorcycle accidents but an experienced rider will know how to deal with those situations, to anticipate them, and avoid them in the first place.
