Saw a new Challenger at King of Prussia today

I like it but Dodge's retro series strike me as a bit too deconstructed. Maybe I'm mis-remembering the originals as having more ornamentation or maybe the ones I saw as a kid were modified.

Saw one in Columbus, OH yesterday too...

Chrysler couldn't have released this car at a worse time.

It should have come out shortly after the other three, not 4 or 5 years later.

I pulled up next to a SRT8 this weekend and it's a really good looking car. The sound it made as it pulled away from the light was phenomenal. My car has a rather small V8 and my wife commented it sounded like it was crying as I was trying to keep up. 🙁

I saw a black one at our local Dodge dealership parked up front on the little platform thing they have to show cars off. It was there for one day and then it was gone. My guess is somebody had it on order and while the dealer was waiting for him to pick it up they parked it up front to advertise.

It looked pretty cool. Just like all the pictures I'd seen before it was released.

EDIT: And Wiz makes a good point. Why the heck did they wait so long to release it? Same thing with the new Chevy Camaro. Seems like we're seeing a lot more of the car before it's even available to purchase. I'm wondering if this isn't some new marketing scheme to build up demand for the vehicle before it's released making the initial sales figures higher.

Same thing with keeping it limited supply on purpose like they do with game consoles the first year of release, playing on people's desire for something only because someone else can't have one, in order to drive up perceived demand. People are more likely to buy something right away if they feel rushed and pressured that something is "out of stock" and they might not be able to get one.

As for the car itself, we used to own a '70 Challenger, granted a 318 SE. Something about this new model just doesn't look right to me. It looks a little thick and fat like most sedans these days, not as sleek and slender as the original.

Yep no coke bottle look like the classics have. These stupid huge fat 1/4 panels are the worst thing to come out.

And now with gas prices so high the cars might be dead before they even get released.

Just read yesterday that the Z28 version of the Camero is a no-go and only an SS will be released.

They are bigger than the originals.

I saw one come in a a dealership about a month ago while I was doing a job there. All the mechanics were out there watching the guy unload it.

It was pretty meh to me. More Chrysler crap. It's amazing how much the old ones sell for now....they were considered pretty much crap back in the day......but wait 30 years or so, and now they're worth big bucks.

We have 3 coming in at work..one came in last week, the other 2 are due next month..all 3 were sold over a year ago.....

Trust me, these cars will not be sitting in the dealer lots....

Not for the first year, but think of the recent Ford Thunderbird and so on. Retro gas guzzlers aren't the easiest sell in this market beyond the fringe fanatics that will pick it up when it's fresh and new.

It's priced dangerously close to the infinitely superior Vette.

Some dude down the street from me has a silver one (are they even available for purchase yet?). Besides that my father helps fabricate some of Chrysler's prototype vehicles and the challenger was one of several. So if you think that looks like something like old challengers wait until 2010/2011. 😉

Yep, the Thunderbirds were selling for 5-10k OVER sticker when they first came out. We bought them from smaller dealers in the boonies that couldn't sell them but had to take one, for STICKER...and made money on them.

Now you can find one easily, and for a good price.
