Saw a flying deer on the way home today

I was driving home today and about 70 feet in front of me I see this giant think flying through the air coming from the other lane. As I got closer I see the deer up against a guard-rail and a big truck with smashed headlights.
 
A few years ago a kid I knew was killed when a cow elk struck by an oncoming truck (two lanes each way, separated by a median) was flipped onto the car he was riding in.

You wouldn't think a 1000 lb animal would fly that far.
