Saw a cop turn on his siren at a left turn light tonight..

First time you've seen this? wow.. I've seen it happen a dozen times at least in different situations.

I remember in high school we had a cop come to a health class, and she asked if anyone had any questions (mainly about drugs, but no one was talking so it was open); one kid asked "why do cops turn on their sirens, go through a red light, and then turn them off?" she kind of stuttered a bit and said "um um it was probably called off after he went through the light"..

Sure thing, officer.
 
Must have been doughnut time.

I've seen cops do that at lights many, many times. Once, I saw one stop beside me at a red light, turn his lights/siren on, run the stop light, and right after that it turned green.


Then up the street, I saw him turn into the Golden Corral to meet his buddy for lunch......that's where I was going, too.
 
At least it was turned on. Around where I am, they don't even bother to do that when going through red lights or other illegal traffic moves.
 
Did any of you dumbasses ever think it was a call that was a certain code? If it is a Code whatever it may be requested that lights and sirens NOT be used. Thus he only used them when he had to clear the intersection and turn around to the call. Just because they don't have their lights on does not mean they aren't responding to an emergency call. Lots of times it is a volatile call or a silent alarm. They only use the lights when they have to blow through a light.

It is typically illegal to follow emergency vehicle that are on the way to a call numbnuts.

not as good as what ive seen...

out of nowhere I hear a loud police siren, so i slow down and a police car passes me by @ like 65mph (on 40mph zone)

and where does he turn in? to a freakin DUNKIN DONUTS!!!... and siren is off..

most likely there was a call or something.. but the situation was TOO unrealistic! so i reported the incidents to friends right away! 😛

too bad i didnt have my digicam with me 🙂

this happened @ chicago about 3 months back. Irving park right off of 290..

While that may happen occasionally, most of the time they just want to get to their destination faster. Yes, it's an abuse of power, but not that big of a deal. Don't kid yourself into thinking it's for a noble purpose.
 
I live near an entire city known for being a speed trap. I drive through it at least a few times a day. The other night I was coming in one of the back entrances to the city at about 3:45 AM... it's a small highway - one lane in each direction. Speed limit is the "legal limit" (no, there is no number posted anywhere). I always assume that the limit is 55 then, but when I saw headlights coming toward me at that time of night, I slowed down to just under 50... it was a county sheriff's cruiser... he didn't stop me or anything, no lights... so I continue down the road. After a rather sharp curve, it suddenly drops down to 25 MPH (when you enter a subdivision). So I'm slowing down... just as I pass the 25 MPH sign, I'm doing about 30, still braking... and what do you know, red & blues in my rear view mirror. I looked down, saw I was over the limit... started to pull over to the side of the road... and the fvcking drove right past me... at exactly 25 MPH... turned his lights off just after he passed me.

THAT makes me more furious than when they just run red lights.
