i thought the whole calf was supposed to ball up? it didn't do it for him though so i guess he got off lucky. however he is in a cast and there's a one year recovery time.

i don't think i want to play basketball at work anymore 🙁 my legs have been feeling goose pimples since it was confirmed he tore it.

It only rolls up from what I understand if its a 100% tear which is super rare.
I've been at Basketball too for an achilles tons of ankles and a few ACLs. I'm nervous every time I step on the court. I blew out my ankle 4 years ago. At 35, something is going to snap sooner or later.

Was it before or after he warmed up?

he had already played two intense games. so he was pretty warmed up.

ahh thanks for clarifying. i personally have sprained my ankles so many times that i can almost go 90 degrees now with out them hurting. not sure if this is good or bad lol. however, for the past year i have been playing with plantar fasciatis and boy is that painful. i finally went to the doctor last week for it, and all he gives me is 800mg of ibuprofen 3x a day and stretch.

Isn't that supposed to be incredibly painful? One year recovery time.

Ouch, hurts just thinking about it. 🙁

A full tear supposedly feels like a white-hot metal rod rapidly retracting up through your calf as it retracts.

I had some achilles problems a cajillion years ago when I used to run a lot - to the point some quack podiatrist wanted to do surgery. Luckily I collected my brain cells and went to a sports orthopedic doctor and he recommended just stretching using something like this every day:

Slant Board

I made my own using plywood and an old piece of carpet. Haven't had a problem with the achilles in the 20 years since.
