I need to reformat my son's HD. He is adamant that he wants to keep the saved games for the games he plays. Some games are online, some just on the computer. Can I do this? FYI: it's a mid-end Athlon, using XP.
The ones online are probably saved server side. The ones saved locally will be easy to back up. Each game usually has a saved game dir either where the games is installed or under the user documents and settings.
Why do you need to reformat? If that the case you can do a image backup of his system. Then do you format/reinstall. Any game that need registry setting to work properly reinstall those games. Them mount the saved image as a drive. You can then delete the main game folder you just installed with the original game folder and the game should work properly and be a clone with the save games restored. Some games store the save as stated by DanDeighan My documents/My Games so you can look to see what games are there and restore them from mounted drive after those game are installed. There maybe games storing info in a different location. You would then need to goto the game maker for info on where to restore your game files. As long as you have the drived backed you can get any info you need off it like documents favorites ect that we forget to save before formatting
