Saving remote control buttons into computer via IRDA adapter?

I lost a remote control. I asked someone who has that same remote control to ship over his so I can use my learning universal remote to copy all the buttons.
But just in case the learning remote runs out of battery,
I want to backup the codes of that remote into my computer.
I have a IRDA adapter, I am just wondering if there are any programs out there that can receive, store, and output the IR codes?
