Got around to watching it off my Comcast DVR today recorded from TNTHD. First time I ever watched it, and I was tired and emotionally weakened, and it had me with little tears in the middle, but then the end, there were some drips on the couch. Wasn't it the best movie you've ever seen? Definitely hits my Top 5 list.

I'm quite proud of TNT as well. No editing at all it seems. On the beach you see the guys guts pouring out and all that, as well as the language all through it. Plus the HD recording and playback made the experience so much better.

Yeah. first time I saw that, I was thinking about it...

About that little coward that let his comrade get knifed by the enemy.
Oh well, the enemy got shot in the end anyways.

It's a great movie.

I watched it flying home from Europe this summer. :D I hope there weren't any little kids sitting behind me that could see my laptop screen. :Q

I remember watching in in the theatre. When it was over, everybody in the audience just kinda stood up and left, silent. Shocked, sad, proud, amazed. Not like any other movie I ever left.

I have had broadband for a while, but never got around to it. I'd always go and see it in the store and whatnot, but something more along what I like took my eye. Then, TNT hadit, and the Comcast DVR with the dual tuners would let me record it, and there it was.

I know what you're saying about the coward guy, but why did the Germam let him go?

I'm still pissed it lost to Shakespeare in Love at the 98 Academy Awards.

Harrison Ford looked like he wanted to puke when he read the winner.

It's not even one of the best war movies.

Band of Brothers (mini-series), Tae Guk Gi, Black Hawk Down and Platoon are a few I prefer.

Meh. For WWII flicks, I prefered The Thin Red Line. Band of Brothers was also a superior production to Saving Private Ryan; granted it was a miniseries not a movie.

Band of Brothers might be the best thing I've ever seen about WWII, but for a movie Private Ryan was great... the first 20 minutes is about the most intense war scene in any movie I can think of & should be a required watch for all Americans.

On of the best movies made. period.

How anyone cannot rank this as one of the best war movies ever made shows a narrow-minded view of what constitutes a real 'war' movie. The psychological toll it exacted on the survivors is palpable, with Hanks character almost oblivious to the enemy swarming around him, as his sole objective is to finish the job set upon him. The ending could make a cell of Al Quaeda weep as well.

I hated Thin Red Line, but Band of Brothers was phenominal.

Aren't you pissed that "Shakespeare in Love" beat it for "Best Picture Oscar" that year? I'll never watch "Shakespeare in Love" because of that!

You can thank Hollywood politics and Harvey Weinstein for that.

i agree with all cept tae guk gi, that was so sappy i kept wondering whether it was a sad parody of a war movie.

not that i didn't find it a good movie, but i feel like there are other movies that do a better job of showing the raw psychological toll. saving private ryan is kind of like the in-between... the greenday of war movies.
