Hey,

I was at WorstBuy today...browsing and drooling like I usually do. I saw Saving Private Ryan - Special Widescreen "Supah Doopah" Edition.

It was only $15...I don't own this movie (yes, I'm embarassed...it's an awesome HT Demo disc!) and almost bought it.

While perusing the back of the case, I noted the "Dolby Digital" symbols...and suddenly remembered reading something about a DTS version of this movie. I looked there, but couldn't find it.

Does a DTS version (or version with both DD and DTS) of Saving Private Ryan exist?

Thanks.

Yep, I have it. When it first came out, there were at least two versions, one with DD and lots of extras, and one with few features and DTS. I bought the DTS version. Sounds awesome!

There's also another version coming out May 25th. Clicky. Not sure if the transfer is improved, but the extras are new on this version

Cool! Thanks very much.

If I have the choice, I buy the DTS versions...as long as the DD version doesn't have like, four hours of extras, "the making of" and stuff like that....melikes the extras. :)

Thanks again.

The DTS version doesn't have the 30 minute documentary that the DD version has. The new one being released is DTS along with DD. So if you're a completist freak, you'll want to pickup the non DTS version now and the 60th anniversary version in May.

oh cool, I'll have to get that one. I have the DTS version and there are no extras. unless you want to count a "special message from Jeep" which shows a Wrangler on Utah beach. sacrilege.

This is how I always answer this question: go rent (or buy) Band of Brothers. Watch it once in DD. Then watch it again in DTS.

I swear, 95% of the copies on ebay of BoB are pirated. I was hoping to pick it up at a decent price but nearly everything I looked at was a pirated version.

I should have picked it up whe you could get it for $70 at release.

That's a pretty good price on the anniversary edition. Although I think I like BoB more now, so maybe I'll put my SPR D-Day anniversary edition funds towards the BoB set, since I already own the DTS SPR.

I guess I suck at the audiophile, because I can't really tell the difference.

just did a quick search on google to find the differences between them:

DTS and DD are both 5.1, but DTS "is issued through the digital audio tracks and does not require RF-modulation. It is also a less compressed signal, which may lead to a difference in the audio quality.... DTS usually has a fuller bodied sound with better fidelity, richer bass, and more enveloping directionality (Dolby Digital tends to bounce from speaker to speaker, while DTS seems to flow from one to the next). "

All i know is that DTS usually sounds better on my system, I've got to get the SPR dts version.. haven't seen that movie in forerbver.
