Saving as PDF on Word 2010 creates character misalignment

Does anyone know why when I save as PDF on Word 2010, certain characters stick to each other and appear misaligned? My Word always saved PDFs normally before until recently. Here's a pic to demonstrate the problem:

Does it happen with all fonts, or only with certain ones? I have seen issues with some fonts that just don't 'translate' to PDF properly.

I haven't tried, but it's with Times New Roman, which I absolutely must use for my document

you state in th eOP that certain characters are not coming out properly from word to the PDF.

Either link to the document or post a sample of the characters and font/size used.

Without such; we can not tell if it is the PDF generator or what?
