If you get the iPad, you can use it along your current smartphone. If you get the iPhone, I suppose that you are going to replace your smartphone.

So the question is, do you want to replace your current smartphone, or do you want a tablet and a smartphone?

I'd wait for the next iPhone.

So you are asking for our opinion on which you should get which will depend on your needs but you haven't said anything about what those needs are?

You should get both.

Yep, what's your current phone? Subsidized or unsubsidized?

You can get some great deals on the Air 2 right now... And there will be more.

The Air 2 is a nice tablet and will have a long life.

The iPhone 6+ will be outlived by the iPhone 5s.

This man speaks the truth. 6+ is crippled by RAM. I will not be surprised to see the iPhone 6 become the $99 phone and the 6+ fades away into the sunset to be replaced with the 6s+. Oh, and the 6s will happen too.

I am confused by this statement because the iPhone 6+'s CPU is about 15-20% faster than 5S's and both have 1GB of RAM. Are you saying the unique 4" form factor of the 5S will still keep it relevant for years to come until Apple decides to release a 4" successor?

OP, I don't think 6+/6S+ can compete with the Air 2/3. If you want a tablet, bigger real estate of 9.7" wins hands down. I think if I was interested in the tablet, I would much rather have a separate phone and an iPad Air 3 vs. a 5.5" smartphone to act as both, assuming you are interested in the tablet and don't have a laptop.

Personally, I prefer 5.2-5.7" smartphone + laptop. I actually find the tablet to be a redundant device but not because of the smartphone, but because of my laptop (15.6" touch screen is more preferable to me).

In the end, it's just a personal preference.

What has traditionally mattered when it comes to the iOS experience is power-per-pixel. Sure the 6+ has a LITTLE bit faster CPU and GPU, but that is spread out over a higher resolution. The reason that the iPad 2 had a longer life of smoother operation than the iPad 3 was because the iPad 2 had more power-per-pixel even though the iPad 3 was more powerful overall. In reality both phones will have iOS support cut off for them at the same time but because the iPhone 5s actually beats the iPhone 6+ in power-per-pixel I expect the 6+ to turn into a lagfest (iPad 3 style) before it no longer can actually take updates.

Even if Apple finds someway to reverse the trend of when iOS devices get obsoleted by iOS, that 1GB of RAM REALLY REALLY hurts the phablet form factor. People simply use a 4 inch phone differently than a 5.5 inch one- the 6+ is more comparable to a tablet. In the tablet space the iPad Air 2 is a MONSTER compared to that 6+, which shows us that the iPhone 6+ doesn't have a lot of room left to breath. Already many developers have complained about the 1GB of ram available.

What I fully expect is after the 6s+ comes out developers will target that base for their phablet apps (aka 2GB of ram) which will force the 6+ into a suboptimal state before the 5S due to an app pressure the 5s will never get. I really truly believe the iPhone 6+ is the iPad 3 of the iPhone line- an underpowered device that will force people into upgrading before they want to.

Just on the face of it the iPhone 6+ is a PATHETIC value. When Apple gives us three cores, 2GB of RAM and a GT 430 level GPU in the iPad for $500 the fact that we don't get a FRACTION of that for their most expensive mobile product (the 6+) is quite frankly pathetic. IMHO Apple held their punches with the last iPhone line. They knew people would buy them simply because of form factor, so they held back flagship specs (a 1080p screen and OIS on the regular 6, 2GB of RAM on either but especially the 6+) to give people a reason to need the 6s and 6s+. The honest truth is that a big iPhone is probably all anyone needs out of the current phone form factor, and so if Apple didn't hold the punches they would be cutting off future revenue. They can do that because iPhone sales are strong.

Meanwhile tablet and iPad sales are dropping, so Apple couldn't hold a punch. As a result the iPad Air 2 is a MONSTER, and probably will have a four plus year life like the iPad 2 had. The fact that they give us so much value for $500 with that device shows they COULD do it with the phones, if they felt they needed to. For my part I JUMPED on a iPad Air 2 when I could, because I only buy iOS devices that I feel will have a long life (my last one was the iPad 2). I also warned everyone in my life who was drooling over that phablet iPhone the risk they were taking getting such an underpowered device, and used all the nerd influence I had to try to get them to wait for what should be a much improved iPhone 6s+ model.

My iPhone 5 was an absolute joy to use. Since then, I've owned the 5s 64GB and the 6 Plus 128GB.

The experience is nowhere near as good as my iPhone 5 because they went to 64-bit without increasing memory capacity. Of the 1GB they've used through the last 3 product cycles, the iPhone 5 and 5c actually have more usable RAM than the 5s, 6, or 6 Plus (these newer devices have RAM occupied by 32-bit and 64-bit OS components simultaneously). The way I use my device, the RAM limitations are absolutely unbearable...especially because my 128GB launch unit has the slow/unstable TLC storage. To get an MLC 128GB iPhone 6 Plus, you'd have to buy it brand-new. Any second-hand or refurbished unit is almost guaranteed to be a TLC unit :(

In the other hand, the iPad Air 2 has 2GB RAM and should be an absolute joy to use. It's the only iOS device right now with > 1GB RAM.

Wait for the new devices this year or get an iPad Air 2.

I have an iPhone 6, iPad mini, dell laptop and desktop. I just recently got an apple watch. With my usage pattern changing, I hardly ever use the laptop or desktop. It's mainly the mini and phone, now with the watch being used for most of my texting and calling I could see myself getting down to just two devices, the watch and the larger iPhone 6s+. I think the larger phone screen is too ridiculous for phone usage but if it's going to be in my pocket most of the time and only used for email and internet I could see that working.

Sony has a Bluetooth handset. It's like a micro-size phone. Also has a speakerphone mode. Your phablet can stay in your pocket.

It was made for Xperia Z Ultra, but should work with anything. My brother uses one with his iPhone 6 Plus.

They sell it stand-alone too but they only market it for Android phones. That's because it doesn't do voice control or Siri or let you dial from the handset like it will on Android. It will do CallerID, playback control so it can save you from dropping your phablet.
It's the SBH52. It also includes earbuds and has a built-in FM radio.

Never knew this thing existed until now. Cool, but not worth Sony's asking price.
