Sometimes my life turns into a soap opera.
I sent an email to my hockey team with some suggestions on how we could improve our game. Basic things that every team should already do, like utilize defensemen at the point when on offense, pass when you're double covered, etc. Granted it was basically aimed at our captain because he sucks with teamplay (I didnt mention names), but anyways... One of my good friends isnt playing this season so we're down one guy, but I BCC him the email too because I know he feels the exact same way as me and I'd like his personal thoughts.
I get a response almost immediately from one fellow (he was my best friend for roughly 10 years back in the day) which was basically trying to a damage control email, saying that we're just playing for fun... he thinks me being able to voice my concerns is good but that stuff "tends to get under peoples' skins".
Now, our captain, I've always sensed that he didnt like me for some reason. Not sure why, I just chalked it up to his personality and that I was making things up in my head. So I just always let it go. The non-playing friend emails me back and tells me a story about years past. Apparently, (I have ZERO recollection of this) when I first started playing with the team I was busting the responding friend's balls about how I was better than him at hockey. I am defianately not so even if I did say it, I'm sure it was in jest as he was one of my better friends. For whatever reason, captain decided to take offense to this (his cousin) and has held onto it ever since. Non-playing friend found out about it when he was talking to captain about the team earlier THIS year, when I started playing in at a new rink with them. Apparently captain had an attitude when he was talking about me and non-playing friend asked what was up. I started playing with this team over four years ago.
So I decided to email replying friend and find out for myself what the deal is... keeping non-playing friend out of it. He hasnt emailed back yet even though he immediately responded to my strategy email. I feel like I'm in elementary school and I stole the captain's cheetos, and he hates me because of it. If this isnt resolved, I'll be leaving the team. Non-playing friend is already planning on doing so...
stupid sh!t :/
cliffnotes:
-emailed hockey team on ways to improve strategy
-get standard "we're just playing for fun" damage control email from one friend
-get non-standard "the captain hates you because of sh!t that happened over four years ago" email
-wrote to captain's cousin, waiting for a response, possibly thinking on leaving team
