Hi guys... im starting to think maybe after 3 years my XP installation needs to be redone...
the other day i started getting spyware for the first time ever (a popup maybe evrey 10 minutes) and have run windows defender and spybot a few times and they usually detect something and get rid of it.. but its usually back

i thought it was all good.. but just got a buffer error in explorer.EXE which closed a few things....

just before i bite the bullet and reinstall windows, do i have any other options of getting rid of this?

ive done an in depth scan with nod32 which didnt come up with anything

all my software is fully up to date and windows is fully up to date as well

many thanks

Generally speaking, once 'something' is on your system, its pretty well screwed. If a program can get access to your computer, it can potentially get around any attempt at trying to remove it. Some 'spyware/malware' may even put dummy files or reg keys on there that Anti-spy programs find and remove, which gives the illusion of effectiveness. Once a system is compromised, theres only one real way to get rid of it, format and reinstall.

By save my machine, I really meant get rid of all the spyware/malware without having to reinstall windows.

Its alrite i bit the bullet and chucked Vista on last nite.

Still undecided about Vista at the moment still.... its not as easy and simple as XP
