I waited outside BB for Black Friday for 2-3 hours. The only thing i was offered by BB was donuts, coffee and orange juice.

You are being so inconvienenced by having to say "no".:roll:

It is not the inconvience of saying no . It is Best Buy employees lying to their customers right to thier face that gets me . During the 360 launch I was told that my xbox will probally be defective and should definetly get the extended warranty . I don't know about you , but to me this falls under bad business practices . Not to mention the simple fact that even if my xbox was defective they wouldn't even have a replacement unit to give me .

Here is a good video explaining the situation .

Also when I bought my 150 dollar Emachine computer they blatently said " your computer will not run without spysweeper and Norton antiviruis installed on it " Which is a 130 dollar upgrade . After that I freaked out and almost got kicked out of the store .

I did some more research into this issue and found out ( from a coupe of people that work at best buy ) that while Best Buy employees are not on comision , they do get prizes based on how many warranties they sell to customers . For daily stuf they ussually get candy or some red bull . But the all time leaders for the month and year get stuff like Ipods and complete video game consoles . THis is why some of the employees push the extras so hard .

Hahah ... that video is gold! I used to work at BB, and when I did, we didn't get any type of bonuses for selling extended warranties or anything, not on a daily basis or not on a monthly basis.

now that i think about it i actually quit on my 31st day (because you need to work 30 days to get a discount) so I may not know about the whole month thing anyways.

i like how in the video he straight up tells them they are going to lose their $500 so they better get the warranty. what a douche.

i was hot sh|t when I worked at Best Buy. I got promoted quickly too. Working in the computer department (MANY years before geek squad), the more you sold, the better you stood for advancement. I went from being seasonal help in the department to the assistant dept. supe. We had all sorts of tricks to get people to buy them, however, we made it very clear WHAT they were buying. There was a lot of informal inboarding that took place, for instance, this was a common tag line:

"I just spoke with my manager and he saw noticed you were purchasing one of our larger packages. He said SINCE you were buying the extended coverage (PSP, EPP or whatever it was called then), that we were able to throw a free printer in"

"so, If i buy this warranty, you are giving me a free printer?"

"no sir, BECAUSE you were purchasing one of our great bundles with extra coverage, we're able to throw in this printer for you".

It's all a play on words. It is a common practice and it's a shady practice. Feel bad for the employees who are pushing it...they may not like it, but if they don't meet their numbers, they don't get work hours.
