Save money at best Buy

I made this in response to one hell of a ****** thanksgiving week at Best Buy . I spent a total of 20 hours waiting outside in the cold between Black Friday and 360 launch . In that time period I was offered an extended warranty on everything at least 30 times .

*I would like to note that yes I made this product , and I make absolutely no money selling it . If this is against forum rules let me know . I just can't stand seeing a 20 year old high school drop out convincing a customer that the product they are about to sell them is defective . *

How exactly do you not make money? That is the point of Cafe Press. Do you donate money to a charity?

they must not push the warranties very aggressively here, because I hardly get offered. or maybe I just look so intimidating.... j/k 😛

It is not the inconvience of saying no . It is Best Buy employees lying to their customers right to thier face that gets me . During the 360 launch I was told that my xbox will probally be defective and should definetly get the extended warranty . I don't know about you , but to me this falls under bad business practices . Not to mention the simple fact that even if my xbox was defective they wouldn't even have a replacement unit to give me .

Here is a good video explaining the situation .

Also when I bought my 150 dollar Emachine computer they blatently said " your computer will not run without spysweeper and Norton antiviruis installed on it " Which is a 130 dollar upgrade . After that I freaked out and almost got kicked out of the store .

I did some more research into this issue and found out ( from a coupe of people that work at best buy ) that while Best Buy employees are not on comision , they do get prizes based on how many warranties they sell to customers . For daily stuf they ussually get candy or some red bull . But the all time leaders for the month and year get stuff like Ipods and complete video game consoles . THis is why some of the employees push the extras so hard .

hahaha

i actually usially make my own sign outta paper or cardboard and it usially says "No I do not need your help!" and I tape it to my hat, whenever one of the BB goons comes over and asks me something i just point to the hat, it really pisses them off

I guess maybe you should have taken their advice? Or have you not heard of all the problems the 360s are having and the lawsuits against Microsoft?

This is a good story for you. I was in bestbuy buying a slim PS2 to bring to college. Keep in mind I have an old model PS2 from about launch time that has been working 100% perfectly since then, and still is.

So the guy is trying to sell me the warranty. I say no of course. He says no if I bring it back when PS3 comes out, I can put the complete credit towards it. This sounds crazy. I ask him what if nothing is wrong with it. He tells me, you can make something wrong with it. However much bullshit this was, I probably should have got the warranty due to the fact that this ps2 will be sitting in my dorm room for the next year(s), but I still didn't buy it

haha I don't care if Microsoft warranties their product or not, I'm simply saying that not all of what the employees were saying were lies and in fact the product is faulty. I can care less if you buy the warranty or not and I for one do not work at BB. Just pointing out the fact that the product IS indeed faulty

I always get the warranties on expensive items that could break from use.

I've gotten a free TV from because mine had a problem 3 times so they swapped it out. Had a DVD player stop working and they fixed it up real nice. If you don't want it, just tell them No and interrupt them if they keep talking.

I hate when they offer me a $20 warranty on a $25 item because that' just stupid. But I've never had a problem with getting them to fix something that was broken and had a warranty.

You are almost there. 3% to 5% of the product is indeed faulty. The other 95% to 97% of the 360's are working just fine.

What you're actually dealing with is a bunch of greedy corporate assholes who tell store management they have to meet X goal. If they don't do it, they're in deep ******. If they do it, and do it well, the mgrs get incentives like you described. The people actually offering you the warranty are underpaid and are the type of people who like to please others, because the mgrs just give the employees sh!t and more sh!t to sell the extended warranties and fifty billion add-on services/items.

Some of the dumbasses who are forced to sell this stuff are so pathetic they will tell blatant lies or mislead the customer to try to please their managers. Others can actually sell and rely on whatever benefits the specific item in question offers, instead of pushing it & lying.

If you don't like them, don't shop there. You can stop crying now

Almost six years ago I bought an Emachine after my old 1994 Acer finally bit the dust. The machine cost about $325.00 after a $75.00 rebate. The sales guy at Best Buy talked his ass off to sell me an extended warranty.

Ohhh he said... on-board sound and video--if they go out your sunk, you'll just have to get a new computer. ROFLOL,he "failed" to mention there were two available slots on the mobo for cards and really, what are the odds of BOTH going out?!? Get this, the two year extended warranty was $200.00!! WTF?!?! on a $325.00 computer?!?

Needless to say I passed on that ridiculous warranty offer. I used that computer,my kids used that computer, my wife used it-- everyone used it from 2000 to 2004 and it worked flawless. I sold it in our local paper for $90.00 around Christmas 2004 when I built my kids a new machine. My guess is that the old Emachine is still plugging away and still working flawlessly.
