Hi,

Is it possible to save all the settings, incoming/outgoing Emails, Address book, etc of Microsoft Outlook and restore it after I re-install WinXP? How? Basically, I want to re-install WinXp, but I don't want to loose my Outlook's address book or Emails, I want to save them... Thank you in advance!

best regards,
thomas

Im not sure how you would migrate "everything" but you can move at least the emails and folder structure if you are lucky. Unfortunately where all this resides on your computer can be different than where mine are since there is an option to choose the store folder.

I found some usefull info at this link.

http://www.onecomputerguy.com/app_info/outlook_express_6.htm#change_location

I simply put the old drive in my new box and copied the old files from there to the new drive in the correct place (which took some doing, they were in different folders on either machine and I KNOW I didnt change them on the old machine :).

You can probably do the same with your address book data and possibly with the account information but I didnt attempt that.

I hope this helps.

Ok

Outlook:
then you need to find the PST file and copy it to a CD-will not copy to a floppy as it is too big.
The PST file contains all of your address books, email, agenda-the lot

Outlook express:
Address-find the "wab" file
Email-go to documents/settings and then you will
C:\Documents and Settings\-------- [yuor name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{AD550CD9-D0B0-45A1-BD3B-8A229263A5C5}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
and----- copy your *.dbx files and this will save all of your emails

What works for me is in Outlook 2k & XP, go to File -> Import and Export -> Export to a file -> Personal Folder File (.pst) -> select the Folder to backup (and include any subfolders you wish) -> give the file a name and location. That's it. Then I just copy that file (sometimes it is pretty big) to a CD.

To restore: File -> Import and export -> Import a file -> Personal Folder File (.pst) -> *filename*

I've done this many times, and its worked beautifully...
