Dealing with the amount of snot that comes out of my nose in a day requires enough resources to lay waste to a small New Guinean tribe.

All paper products in the USA are made from renewable forests. Cutting back on paper usage doesn't really "save" a tree. The loggers will just work around the circle slightly slower.

save many trees, use a sock.
LOL, true story. We were in a low-class bar (imagine that) in college. A buddy had to go, no choice. Drop 'em or wear it kind of deal.:$ Then he realizes there isn't any TP. Yells out for a little help. Guy says, "Use your socks, shit ass." Waits a little while and gives another shout. Same guy hasn't left the bathroom, "Use your socks, shit ass."

Later I have to take a leak. Guy goes into the next stall, "Oh, man. Somebody took a dump and wiped with their socks.":biggrin: Surprised I didn't pee down my leg.

Nearly 30 years later and I still laugh. My buddy, strangely, doesn't remember the story.:D

You don't actually believe this, do you?

If it just came down to the trees, I'd have to agree with him because the entire Southeast from just east of Oklahoma City to Florida is 100% forest. Our pine trees grow very fast.

However, clear cutting like they do, I have to wonder how the soil could possibly hold up. Unless they also fertilize the areas they cut I don't think they'd last for too many cycles.

You know that not all of the paper products we use come from the USA, right? I'd say it's likely that not even all the products made in the USA come from USA trees.

barely.

Imports account for about 10 to 12 percent of the paper consumed each year in the United States. Assuming this is all imported from non-renewable forests, it is still more than offset by the amount of forest we add each according to the above link.

We were talking about paper right? You want to talk about something else?

I think you're missing the point so I'll stop wasting my time

What point? Try to come up with some facts, too.

Are you trying to imply that companies are stripping old growth forests to make paper? That's idiotic.

If you are concerned about the world's forests, then you should be concerned with furniture and third world agriculture.

I countered a stupid statement by train and now you guys are jumping on me? lol

My point was that not all the paper products we use in the USA are from renewable forests like he said. Probably not even all the paper products made here use trees from renewable forests. Furthermore, the USA isn't the only country in the world...Why do I have to spell this out? You guys really believe "Cutting back on paper usage doesn't really "save" a tree"?

That link is probably a little rosier than the reality, but yeah, forestry in the US is pretty well managed and sustainable these days, particularly for softwoods.

Hardwoods, well, lots of those get imported from third-world countries where they are NOT sustainable. But that isn't toilet-paper material, as you point out.

try countering it with some facts then.

We only know that in 2009, 10-12% of paper products were imported. What percentage of those were from renewable is unknown.

You cant just say "your stupid" with nothing to back it up.

If you want to talk exotic woods used for furniture or flooring, thats a seperate story. But even there, the US has import restrictions on many types of wood, to protect the forests they come from. But I'm pretty sure I did say "In the USA" in my original post.

I'm not going to go google for facts for what should be common sense. All I'm saying is your original post is stupid, because it's plain wrong.

You know full well you pwnted yourself. We are talking about tissue. A specific product. I've never seen tissue that wasn't milled in the USA.
You're arguing about something you only introduced for an argument.
