Save a stream?

If I have the URL for a .ram audio/video stream, is there a way to save it to a file that I can bring to a computer that doesn't have an Internet connection?

(It's for a BBC video that I want to use for my college speech project. I want to add it to my Powerpoint.)

Ditto. I will not install Real Player and have it take over my PC. It's one of the programs I refuse to install. It's way too invasive. I wish I could help you.

I only installed it because my grade is more important to me right now than the temporary safety of my harddrive. (I have obsessive backups. I can always reinstall.)

You can dumpstream with mplayer:
mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile /tmp/a.rm pnm://rm.bbc.net.uk/news/media/video/38705000/rm/_38705831_7457_01-04-83_56ka1_vi.rm
